Effects of Cocaine Addiction

In the beginning the effects a person with cocaine addiction feels on the body are unreasonable irritability, uncontrollable restlessness, excitability to the extremes, and difficulty with sleeping. Further on into the addiction the cocaine addict may experience fretfulness, anxiety when there is no apparent reason for it, extreme paranoia, delusions in the sensory perceptions, and a feeling that insects are crawling on the surface of the skin. Some physical effects that a cocaine addict experiences are increased heart rate, high blood pressure, fast breathing, and dilated pupils. Depending on how the cocaine is administered into the body these effects may be felt up to two hours after the last dosage. People with a cocaine addiction don’t wait long to do another “line” or “rail” even though the effects are still being felt. They want a stronger effect and will do more and more chasing this high. A cocaine smoker may use another dosage less than a minute after his last one. Shortly after a severe craving for the drug hits the cocaine addict and another dose is needed. This can go on till the addict runs out of drugs, money, or has been on a long binge and just can’t physically take it any longer. After a long cocaine binge a crash always occurs. As the drug starts to wear off the cocaine addict will experience feelings of hopelessness and severe depression. The reason for this is that vital chemicals in the brain that maintain mood and feeling of well-being have been depleted. Aftereffects of a cocaine binge can be felt up to a week after the last use. Someone suffering from a cocaine addiction must use the drug to feel good again. Cocaine addiction can be deadly for even the beginning user. Within the first hour of use the cocaine addict risks a 40% greater chance of having a heart attack or store. Frequent cocaine use can cause severe damage to the brain, heart, liver, lungs, nose and throat as well as other vital organs. The stimulant effect produced by cocaine causes the body’s temperature to rise drastically and over time can cause renal damage and failure. If you suspect you might have become a victim to cocaine addiction and are experiencing any of these symptoms get help now from one of our addiction councilors now before it’s to late.
